Poor Barbie

I’m so dumbfounded on this whole thing going on these past few weeks I shake my head in disbelief.

A Beautiful idea, whose goal was to heal and promote cancer awareness, has turned dark and political, with opponents on all sides, all because of a few ill chosen words, and a poor doll stuck in the middle.

In the Beautiful and Bald Barbie camp, who would love nothing more to see a Beautiful and Bald Barbie, has defined their desires to represent all childhood baldness causes and not exclusive to cancer. I would love to see this happen for personal reasons.

Mattel with their corporate and marketing directors I’m sure only work with defined, qualified and quantified parameters, only based decisions on a broad segments of market data, bla, bla, bla, which the Beautiful and Bald Barbie camp represent a niche group, may or may not represent the whole potential market. I understand this point of view, Mattel would risk much in money and reputation.

Now the ACS has placed their marker on the field and stoked the flames with their views and few ill chosen words. Unfortunately, child hood cancer is a small portion of all the cancer types and cancer rates, etc,… just tugs on our heart strings the most, well at least for me, but to say what they did, how, and at this particular time, tisk, tisk.

And I keep falling on my original thought, when I first saw this: “Wow, wouldn’t be fantastic if the Mattel Corporation through their philanthropy commitment, would work a deal with the Relay For Life to distribute these Beautiful and Bald Barbie as a fundraising channel for the RFL, help promote cancer awareness, promote Mattel as a major contributor to RFL, raise brand awareness for both, and most importantly of all, comfort those that need comforting, the kids and parent with cancer.”

And look what we have at the moment?!?!

I shake my head in disbelief,

Time For A Cure

~WoW~
Here we are, 2012 all ready
and like clock work
just like the last 7 years
another season of Relay For Life of Second Life is in the planning!

As you may all ready know, this years RFLofSL season of "Time For A Cure" runs from March 10th, 2012 to July 14th, 2012, and I am REALLY EXCITED that I have been given the role of Co-Chair of PR and Media Relations for RFLofSL.

And I'm also SUPER EXCITED to be working with Lyr Lobo, this year's PR and Media Relations Area Chair.

In the coming weeks and months, I hope to keeping you up to date in our progress working towards Kick Off Weekend, giving links and sources of information for you to follow, join us, and or, contribute with your stories and donations, to this worthy effort taking place all around the real world and in the digital landscape, all bound by the same goal, to cure cancer.

My "Why I Relay" is much like every one's; father touch by cancer, fought and won his battle 20 year on! YaY! But I have lost many aunts and uncles, cousins, life long friends, and ones I just met, friend's fathers, mother, sister, brother, sons and daughters to this wicked beast. No seriously, I am out of fingers and toes for those wonderful souls, cancer took from me.

Breast cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer, brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, and the one that breaks my heart the worst, childhood leukemia.

So, because of Cancer I fight
With Relay, I fight for everyone I know
With Relay, I fight for everyone I will someday meet
With Relay, I fight for everyone I will never get a chance to meet
With Relay, I fight for more birthdays for everyone
With Relay, I fight with HOPE
I fight with Relay for Life of Second Life for all of them
Past, Present and Future
